<p>Parents are typically the first individuals a child communicates with, and their acceptance or rejection significantly affects the child’s personality traits and psychological well-being. Therefore, a comprehensive tool to assess parental acceptance-rejection behaviors is crucial in any culture. Thus, the present study aimed to investigate the psychometric properties of the short form of the Parental Acceptance-Rejection/Control Questionnaire (PARQ/Control). This study included three groups aged between 20 and 70. The first group (<i>n</i> = 1026) responded to the mother version of PARQ/Control, in which adults shared their ideas regarding their mothers; the second group (<i>n</i> = 1061) responded to the father version of PARQ/Control, in which adults shared their ideas regarding their fathers, and the third group (<i>n</i> = 1090) responded to the Parent version of PARQ/Control, in which parents shared their ideas regarding their children. Additionally, the first and second groups completed the Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) to assess criterion validity. Confirmatory factor analysis supported the four-factor structure of the PARQ/Control in all three versions. Additionally, the unifactorial control dimension was validated in each version. The retest reliability of all three versions exceeded 0.8 for the PARQ and 0.7 for the control dimension. Furthermore, a moderate correlation was found between the Adult PARQ and the RSES. According to the results, the factorial structure, reliability, and validity of the PARQ/Control were confirmed in all three groups and can be used in future studies. It is suggested that the psychometric properties of other versions of the PARQ/Control in Iran be investigated.</p>

摘要

Parents are typically the first individuals a child communicates with, and their acceptance or rejection significantly affects the child’s personality traits and psychological well-being. The first group (n = 1026) responded to the mother version of PARQ/Control, in which adults shared their ideas regarding their mothers; the second group (n = 1061) responded to the father version of PARQ/Control, in which adults shared their ideas regarding their fathers, and the third group (n = 1090) responded to the Parent version of PARQ/Control, in which parents shared their ideas regarding their children. It is suggested that the psychometric properties of other versions of the PARQ/Control in Iran be investigated.
