The Impact of Internet Use on the Multidimensional Health of Older People in the Digital Age: A National Survey
摘要
The study explores the extent and underlying mechanisms of the impact of Internet use on health based on mixed cross-sectional data consisting of the 2018 and 2021 China General Social Surveys. Additionally, the study incorporates time interaction terms to examine how contextual changes before and after the pandemic influence older adults’ internet use rates and their potential health effects. The data results show that the Internet has a significant positive effect on enhancing the multidimensional health of older adults, and that the use of the Internet by older adults will further influence their multidimensional health status by affecting their frequency of learning, social frequency and social trust. The proportion of mediating variables explained differently for different health categories of older adults; There was a moderating effect of older adults’ education level between Internet use and physical health. Therefore, in order to promote the comprehensive and coordinated development of older adults and to address health inequalities, attention needs to be paid to the cultivation of older adults’ Internet application skills.
