From Newcomers to Life Coaches: The Emergence of Micro-Influencers in Canada’s Immigration Ecosystem
摘要
The rapid evolution of digital technologies has transformed how migration is imagined, planned, and experienced. This study examines the emerging role of immigrant micro-influencers within Canada’s migration ecosystem. Drawing on semi-structured interviews with 21 immigrant content creators, we identify how these actors navigate complex digital spaces while performing multiple roles such as trailblazers mapping migration pathways, life coaches offering guidance and emotional support, and infotainers shaping community narratives. Our findings reveal that immigrant micro-influencers influence both pre- and post-migration experiences by shaping aspirations, decisions, and social integration, while balancing a number of tensions between authenticity, performance, and political engagement. This research contributes to scholarship on digitally enhanced migration and identifies immigrant micro-influencers as group of cultural intermediaries with growing impact in contemporary diasporic life.
