<p>In Portugal, current legislation permits adoption by same-sex couples. Scientific research consistently demonstrates that gay and lesbian individuals are fit and capable parents, and that their children show psychological development comparable to those raised by heterosexual couples. Nonetheless, societal beliefs persist that same-sex parenting negatively affects children, fuelling discrimination against LGBTQIA + families. This study aimed to examine the relationship between attitudes toward adoption by same-sex couples, psychological well-being, and personality traits. A total of 1001 participants (798 females and 203 males), aged 18 to 75 (<i>M</i> = 32.55; <i>SD</i> = 12.50), completed a sociodemographic questionnaire, the Attitudes Towards Adoption of Children by Homosexuals (ATACH), the Psychological Well-Being Manifestation Measure Scale (PWBMMS), and the NEO-Five Factor Inventory (NEO-FFI). Results indicated that higher levels of social involvement, agreeableness, openness to experience, and neuroticism were associated with more positive attitudes toward same-sex adoption. Conversely, male gender, older age, and higher religiosity were linked to more negative attitudes.</p>
