Dating App Motivations in Emerging Adulthood: Motivations Across Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge Users
摘要
Though previous research shows emerging adults are the most likely age group to use dating apps and report a variety of motivations for using dating apps, research has yet to examine whether emerging adults’ dating app motivations differ based on the type of app used. Therefore, the current study utilized an online survey to examine emerging adults’ (n = 241) motivations for using dating apps within the last seven days and whether these motivations differ across Tinder, Bumble, and Hinge users. Emerging adults reported the highest motivations for thrill of excitement, love, and trendiness. Casual sex motivations were associated with a lower likelihood of being a Bumble user than a Tinder user, and ease of communication motivations were associated with a lower likelihood of being a Hinge user than a Tinder user. Findings demonstrate emerging adults use dating apps for a variety of reasons, beyond romantic and sexual interest.
