What’s Happening in Publishing in Aotearoa? Reflections from Graduates of the Whitireia Graduate Diploma in Publishing
摘要
This study reports on graduates’ experiences of Aotearoa New Zealand’s Whitireia Community Polytechnic’s Graduate Diploma in Publishing (WGDP). The research aimed to explore what aspects of the course graduates most valued as well as the biggest issues they considered were facing the publishing industry. A total of 56 graduates completed an online survey. Results showed that the respondents considered the accrued knowledge of the publishing roles, the “hands on” aspect, and professional learning as the most useful aspects of the course. Developing lifelong friendships, having fun, and networking summed up the respondents’ course experiences. AI, lack of diversity in published works, low remuneration, a small national market, and sustainability were considered the biggest issues facing the industry. More research is needed on students’ perspectives on their courses given they are the future of the industry.
