But high-profile incidents—such as remote deletions of purchased titles—have eroded reader trust and revealed the fragility of digital ownership. Rapidly evolving technologies, including artificial intelligence, add new layers of complexity for copyright protection and user freedom, sometimes driving consumers to unauthorized alternatives. Therefore, this paper examines various strategies—from traditional digital locks to more reader-friendly solutions like watermarks, blockchain applications, and non-restrictive licensing. Drawing on the reader's perspective, it demonstrates how excessively rigid measures can undermine the legitimate market. In contrast, flexible approaches can foster a healthier ecosystem that balances economic needs with user satisfaction. No single tactic universally resolves digital piracy; the paper advocates a nuanced, adaptive model that incorporates ethical, technological, and commercial considerations. In particular, emerging innovations—such as immersive simulations and AI-driven personalization—offer promising avenues to make legitimate e-book experiences more compelling than any heavily locked-down or illicit counterpart.
