摘要

While the Brief Anger and Aggression Questionnaire (BAAQ) was developed nearly 40 years ago, validations of the instrument on correctional populations have been limited. We fill this gap by evaluating the validity of the BAAQ on 1,522 individuals incarcerated in Minnesota’s prison system. The results showed the BAAQ measures a single construct, while the concurrent validity findings indicated the scale had a significant, positive association with assessed recidivism risk. Additional analyses revealed this association was largely due to the BAAQ’s stronger relationship with assessed violent recidivism risk. The findings also showed the BAAQ significantly predicted prison misconduct, with larger effects observed for violent disciplinary infractions. The results suggest that assessing for anger and aggression holds the potential to improve outcomes for incarcerated populations.
