The security and vulnerability issues of blockchain technology: A SWOC analysis
摘要
Blockchain technology (BCT) has emerged as a disruptive force that has the potential to reshape a number of different industries, by offering a distributed ledger system for the storing and management of data. Effective data retrieval and modification requires the use of consensus techniques. In addition, automatic smart contracts are linked to programming and carry out data activities, and cryptographic technologies are employed to ensure safe data transfer and access. However, the development and widespread deployment of BCT have faced significant challenges due to the prevalence of security challenges in these applications. These challenges include vulnerabilities ranging from cryptographic flaws to consensus protocol flaws, which impede the seamless integration and robust operation of blockchain ecosystems across several areas. To guarantee its global adoption and long-term viability, Blockchain, like any other developing technology, has its own unique security problems. The study shows how security and vulnerability intrinsically relate and differ. This study critically examines blockchain security issues by presenting a comprehensive review of the security of BCT through a SWOC (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Challenges) analysis. This paper can also help practitioners and industry experts to understand BCT's risks and vulnerabilities with the current state of its security and to identify areas for further improvement. This helps them to create effective security solutions to reduce threats.
