The Many Faces of Palatal Mucoepidermoid Carcinoma: A Case Series of Four Distinct Presentations
摘要
Mucoepidermoid carcinoma (MEC) is the most common malignant salivary gland tumor, affecting both major and minor glands. While the parotid is the typical site, the palate is frequently involved in cases arising from minor salivary glands. MEC originates from pluripotent ductal reserve cells capable of differentiating into mucous, squamous, and intermediate cells. Histologically, it is graded as low, intermediate, or high based on cytological atypia, cystic architecture, and cellular composition. Low-grade tumors are the most common (48%), followed by high-grade tumors (38.7%) and intermediate-grade tumors (13.3%). This case series presents four distinct palatal MECs, highlighting their clinical and pathological diversity.
