A Rare Case of Infected Mural Unicystic Ameloblastoma: Diagnostic Challenges with Literature Review
摘要
Unicystic ameloblastoma (UA) is a benign odontogenic tumor that often mimics developmental cysts of the jaws due to overlapping clinical and radiographic characteristics. This report discusses a 66-year-old male who presented with persistent swelling and dull pain in the left mandible. Radiographic examination revealed a well-defined unilocular radiolucency associated with a retained root fragment and an impacted third molar. Surgical enucleation followed by histopathological evaluation confirmed a mural variant of UA complicated by secondary infection. Given its aggressive nature, the mural subtype requires meticulous diagnosis and close postoperative monitoring. This case underscores the critical role of histopathological assessment in distinguishing neoplastic lesions from infected odontogenic cysts.
