Fluticasone Furoate on Health-Related Quality of Life in Adults with Allergic Rhinitis: A Pre–post Comparison, Prospective, Observational Study
摘要
Introduction: Allergic rhinitis is a common chronic inflammatory condition affecting 10 to40% of the global population and is increasing year after year. It has a significantimpact on an individual's daily functioning and quality of life. Intranasal fluticasonefuroate is a first-line treatment for moderate to severe disease, but studies on its long term effects on patient quality of life are limited. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the change in quality of life following 3 months of treatment with fluticasone furoate in adults with moderate-to-severe allergic rhinitis. Methods: In this prospective observational study, 430 patients with allergic rhinitisdiagnosed per ARIA guidelines and confirmed by skin prick test were enrolled. Quality of life was assessed using the Mini-Rhinoconjunctivitis Quality of Life Questionnaire (Mini-RQLQ) at baseline and after 4 and 12 weeks of treatment with intranasal fluticasone furoate (110 mcg once daily). Results: Fluticasone furoate treatment produced a dramatic and statistically significant improvement in Mini-RQLQ scores. The mean score decreased from 3.50 ± 1.01 (moderate-to-severe impairment) at baseline to 0.87 ± 0.47 at 4 weeks and 0.08 ± 0.08 (minimal impairment) at 12 weeks (p < 0.001). No drug-related adverse effects were reported. Conclusion: A 3-month course of fluticasone furoate is highly effective and well tolerated, leading to a rapid and profound improvement in quality of life, nearlyrestoring it to asymptomatic levels in patients with allergic rhinitis.
