Risk factors include extremes of age, the habit of sleeping outdoors during the day, and living in rural areas. Various predisposing factors have been identified, including atrophic rhinitis, immunocompromised states such as uncontrolled diabetes mellitus, midline granulomatous lesions or malignancies, and malnutrition accompanied by poor hygiene. The primary symptoms of nasal myiasis include epistaxis, foul-smelling nasal discharge, pain, and the passage of worms from the nose. The maggots burrow into host tissues, posing a significant risk of both local and distant complications. Major complications include maxillary sinusitis, which is commonly observed in all cases, and diffuse facial cellulitis. In a few instances, severe complications such as septal perforation, saddling of the nose, and palatal perforation have been reported.
