Tumors of nasal septum are a rare and heterogenous group of lesions in sinonasal tract with incidence of benign neoplasms being unknown due to their sporadic occurrence in sinonasal area. A 20-year-old young adult presented with complaints of left sided nasal obstruction and swelling increasing progressively since last 4 years with history of 2 to 3 episodes of epistaxis which was self-limiting. Anterior rhinoscopy examination revealed a reddish pink, non-friable, non-tender globular mass occluding the left nasal cavity almost completely except for the floor of the nose arising from the anterior end of the cartilaginous septum. Radiological assessment with Non contrast enhanced CT nose and paranasal sinus revealed a soft-tissue-density mass in the left nasal cavity arising from cartilaginous part of the septum. On T2-weighted MRI images, the lesion showed homogenous hypo intensity and T1 weighted hyperintensity with central calcification. The patient underwent successful surgical removal of nasal septal mass of size 1.5 cm x 1 cm. Histopathological examination of the specimen sent showed features of Fibroma of Nasal septal cartilage. There was no evidence of recurrence or residual lesion during 1 year follow-up after surgery. Most common benign neoplasms involving nasal cavity are vascular tumors and osseous and fibro osseous lesions. Fibromas arising in the nasal cavity and that too primarily from nasal septum itself is a rare occurrence. If they do occur most common sites of occurrence are posterior end of middle and inferior turbinates. Given its rare occurrence and infrequent presentation in literature as substantiated by only 6 case reports of nasal fibromas of cartilaginous septum till date we report this case to contribute to the existing body of knowledge. Our case report stands out as the first reported instance of nasal septal fibroma in a young adult in contrast to cases in literature that predominantly involved middle aged and elderly patients.

摘要
