<p>A young child presented with painful swelling in parotid which was misdiagnosed as parotid abscess and subjected to repeated aspiration by local practitioners. Contrast enhanced CT scan and Ultrasound guided aspiration cytology revealed it to be a low-grade Mucoepidermoid carcinoma which was excised by superficial parotidectomy. Since the margins were positive the patient was subjected to adjuvant radiotherapy. Patient is on regular follow-up for 1 year after the surgery. Mucoepidermoid carcinoma is a locally aggressive malignant tumour with a potential for distant metastasis which usually presents in middle age and has female preponderance. It is composed of mucous secreting cells, squamous cells and lymphoid infiltrate and can be graded as low, intermediate and high-grade depending on cell differentiation. Low grade tumour usually presents as a painless swelling without facial nerve involvement. Local excision with preservation of facial nerve is treatment of choice.</p>

摘要
