Purpose <p>A cochlear implant (CI) is a type of prosthesis that bypasses the damaged inner ear, sending electrical signals directly to the auditory nerve. Considering the detrimental effects of severe to profound sensorineural hearing loss on language comprehension and speech perception, as well as its adverse influence on cognitive development, there may be differences in attention skills between children with CI and normal children. This study aims to compare Selective and sustained auditory attention between children with CI and normal children.</p> Methods <p>Twenty children with unilateral CI in the right ear and profound hearing loss in the left ear and 20 children with normal hearing were selected for this study. all the participants were between the ages of 8 and 11 years. The normal children of this study were tested twice in the same conditions as the implanted children, once as a bilaterally and then unilaterally with their left ear plugged. To investigate Selective and sustained auditory attention, monaural Selective Auditory Attention Test (mSAAT) and Test of Everyday Attention for Children (TEACH) were used, respectively.</p> Results <p>Significant differences were found between the normal group and the CI group in both mSAAT and TEA-Ch tests. Children with CI scored lower and made more errors than normal group (whether bilateral or unilateral) (Pv &lt; 0.05). no significant differences were observed in the normal group between unilateral and bilateral conditions (Pv &gt; 0.05).</p> Conclusion <p>According to the statistical results, children with CI demonstrate significant difficulties in Selective and sustained auditory attention compared to normal children.</p>
