<p>Our study aimed to determine the prevalence of cochlear dysfunction due to mobile phone usage and analyze the impact of the same on cochlear function concerning the duration and modality of usage among medical students of Puducherry, India. It was a descriptive cross-sectional study performed in the department of ENT for a period of one year with a sample size of 189. After elaborate history taking, a complete examination of the ear was done. The participants were then evaluated for cochlear dysfunction by using audiometric tests such as pure tone audiometry, impedance audiometry, and DPOAE. Following this, the included participants were requested to fill out a questionnaire. The mean age of the participants was 21 ± 2.160 years. 45.5% of participants were using mobile phones for more than 5 years. 99.5% had more than one hour of usage per day with a maximum of 12&#xa0;h. 69.8% of participants used earphones/ headphones for more than one hour per day. 24.3% of participants had a cochlear dysfunction in our study. Male gender had more cochlear dysfunction than females (p-value: 0.002). There was a higher earphone/ headphone usage among males (p-value: 0.029). We want to conclude that, prolonged mobile phone usage in any mode is a potential risk factor for developing early cochlear dysfunction Our study also showed that males had more cochlear dysfunction than females probably due to increased earphone/ headphone usage among them. Thus, necessitating its usage more judicially and cautiously.</p>
