Enhancing Nasal Function and Aesthetics by Septorhinoplasty
摘要
Septorhinoplasty with graft augmentation is a surgical approach to correct nasal deformities, addressing both functional and aesthetic concerns. This study evaluates the effectiveness of this technique in improving nasal function and aesthetics. A prospective study was conducted at ESIC Medical College Hospital Kalaburagi from November 2023 to November 2024, including 29 patients undergoing rhinoplasty for various nasal deformities. Preoperative assessments included facial analysis, nasal endoscopy, and CT scans. Surgical techniques involved open or closed rhinoplasty, extracorporeal septoplasty, osteotomies, and cartilage grafting (septal and/or rib). Patient satisfaction was assessed using the Rhinoplasty Outcome Evaluation (ROE) questionnaire at 3 months post surgery. The study population consisted of 22 males and 7 females, with a mean age of 24.6 years. The primary indication for surgery was external nasal deviation with obstruction (65.5%). Septal cartilage was the most frequently used graft material (82.7%). Postoperative ROE scores showed a statistically significant improvement, with an average increase of 8.34 points (p < 0.05). Transient edema was observed in 13.8% of patients, and one case (3.4%) of minor graft resorption occurred. Septorhinoplasty with graft augmentation is an effective method for addressing a wide range of nasal deformities, leading to significant improvements in both nasal function and aesthetics, as reflected by increased ROE scores. Further research with longer follow-up periods is warranted to assess the long-term stability of the results and potential complications.
