<p>In professional discourses in general, and in the context of social work in particular, the use and creation of knowledge are regarded as central issues. This article discusses the locations and forms of knowledge generation, as well as how scientific knowledge can be applied in practice and how practical knowledge can become “scientific.” It argues that the acquisition of insights no longer takes place solely within the realm of science. Knowledge is also generated in social pedagogical practice, as well as in political discourse and in social administration. This observation is discussed in the article and serves as the basis for replacing the concept of “transfer” with that of “transformation.” In diverse, by no means linear interrelationships, processes of knowledge exchange between practice, politics, administration, and academia must be recognized—and actively shaped.</p>
