<p>The article addresses the role of friendships in coping with challenges of everyday life. It identifies key features of non-professional support among friends and differentiates them from professional interventions in social work. On this basis, the article argues for greater attention to informal social relationships within theories of social work and life conduct. It further highlights the creation of opportunity structures that foster and strengthen such relationships as an important perspective for social work practice.</p>
