Nicht auf Knopfdruck – Wie Offene Kinder- und Jugendarbeit Lebenswege prägt
摘要
The essay tells the story of a boy who grows up in a socially disadvantaged neighborhood and finds a place in open child and youth work that gives his life a new direction. Told from an autobiographical perspective, the text explores how relationships, spaces, and voluntariness in German youth centres enable sustainable processes of change that often begin inconspicuously and only become visible in retrospect. Using concrete experiences, it describes how educational presence, guidance, and relationship work contribute to the growth of self-confidence, conflict management skills, and decision-making competence. The essay combines personal experiences with professional insights from social space research, youth development, and impact theories, and shows why open child and youth work is particularly important where other systems reach their limits. Using the author’s own example, it shows that the impact of youth work is not loud, but can be quiet and yet life-changing.
