Using a mixed-methods approach, eleven baker apprentices were surveyed quantitatively, and a narrative interview with Mr. K. was analyzed qualitatively. Results indicate that the training program addresses basic psychological needs for competence and social relatedness. However, success within incarceration does not automatically translate to successful reintegration.
