<p>This case study examines the bakery apprenticeship programme at Suben Correctional Facility as a&#xa0;social work intervention, situated between individual competence development and structural barriers to reintegration. The theoretical framework combines Self-Determination Theory (Deci and Ryan <CitationRef CitationID="CR4">2013</CitationRef>) with a&#xa0;structure-theoretical and critical social work perspective that locates individual learning processes within societal conditions.</p><p>Using a&#xa0;mixed-methods approach, eleven baker apprentices were surveyed quantitatively, and a&#xa0;narrative interview with Mr.&#xa0;K. was analyzed qualitatively. Results indicate that the training program addresses basic psychological needs for competence and social relatedness. However, success within incarceration does not automatically translate to successful reintegration.</p>
