<p>One of the most pressing challenges is ensuring that child and youth welfare services and structures are adequately staffed with specialists. Despite a&#xa0;considerable increase in human resources in the social professions as a&#xa0;whole and in child and youth welfare in particular, there are still significant gaps in the number of specialists. On the one hand, the available personnel will not be sufficient to cover current and future needs. On the other hand, there is a&#xa0;decline in the number of employees, particularly in eastern Germany, due to the sharp fall in birth rates. Therefore, differentiated analyses of labor market data for social professions and official child and youth welfare statistics are required. They are a&#xa0;necessary prerequisite for multifactorial forecasts of the need for skilled workers and the resulting data-based policy decisions.</p>

One of the most pressing challenges is ensuring that child and youth welfare services and structures are adequately staffed with specialists. Despite a considerable increase in human resources in the social professions as a whole and in child and youth welfare in particular, there are still significant gaps in the number of specialists. On the one hand, the available personnel will not be sufficient to cover current and future needs. On the other hand, there is a decline in the number of employees, particularly in eastern Germany, due to the sharp fall in birth rates. Therefore, differentiated analyses of labor market data for social professions and official child and youth welfare statistics are required. They are a necessary prerequisite for multifactorial forecasts of the need for skilled workers and the resulting data-based policy decisions.
