摘要

The hydroelectric structures consist of water conveyance tunnels subjected to internal hydrostatic pressures. The Indian Standard IS-4880 (part IV) guidelines are used in routine practice to design concrete linings for such internally pressurized tunnels. This code provides the design equations to calculate the radial and tangential stresses in the tunnel lining. While revisiting the detailed derivation of these equations, the authors noted a possible error in the design equations. Therefore, the purpose of the current study is to highlight that error and perform some parametric and case studies to assess the influence of the error on the design stresses. At the end, some recommendations are made that may be useful in revising those equations in the future.
