摘要

In this paper, we analyze and compare two classical spatial modulation (SM) schemes in downlink multiuser multiple-input–multiple-output (MU-MIMO) system, namely Receive SM (RSM) and Parallel SM (PSM). The RSM scheme premises on zero-forcing (ZF) based multiuser downlink beamforming to activate single receiving antenna at each remote user terminal (UT) while simultaneously mitigate multiuser interference (MUI). Alternatively, the antenna array at the base station transmitter (BSTx) of the PSM scheme is separated into several subarrays with each subarray dedicated to a specific UT. At the transmission instant, one antenna in each subarray is activated to send data and the index of the activated antenna itself conveys information. Performance metrics in terms of system throughput (transmitted bits per channel use (bpcu)), complexity and the overall symbol error rate (SER) are comprehensively analyzed and extensive computer simulations are carried out in various scenarios. It is demonstrated that in general scenarios, PSM outperforms the RSM scheme not only in SER but also in complexity and system throughput.
