摘要

The main objective of this article is to introduce a simple method of counting the macrostates and corresponding microstates in a finite degenerate level system extendable to infinite degenerate level system. We shall explain in detail the two-, three-, and four-level systems and generalize them to an infinite-level system. Several related exercises have been suggested for undergraduate students, which hopefully will give a better understanding of this subject in a simplified way.
