Clonal Propagation of Schinus Terebinthifolia Raddi: Vegetative Rescue and Selection of Genotypes Responsive to Adventitious Rooting

Vegetative propagation is fundamental for the conservation and genetic improvement of forest species with economic and ecological significance. This study assessed the feasibility of vegetative rescue in Schinus terebinthifolia through cutting propagation and branch rooting, with the aim of identifying genotypes with high rhizogenic potential. Ten adult trees were selected and subjected to three cultivation environments: a greenhouse, shade house, and full sun. The analyzed variables included the survival rate, shooting, and rooting of both cuttings and branches. The results indicated that the greenhouse environment significantly enhanced adventitious rooting, whereas the shade house promoted greater shoot development. Under full sun, the genotypic responses were heterogeneous, with some trees exhibiting a marked decline in survival and rooting rates. Propagules from trees 4, 7, and 10 demonstrated superior shooting and rooting capacities under different experimental conditions. Cluster analysis revealed distinct phenotypic patterns among genotypes, reinforcing the influence of environmental factors on the success of vegetative propagation. These findings suggest that vegetative rescue through branch and cutting propagation is an effective strategy for the clonal propagation of S. terebinthifolia, enabling the selection of promising genotypes for genetic improvement and conservation.
