<p>This article examines the European approach towards obstetric and gynaecological violence (so-called ob-gyn violence). Given that ob-gyn violence has until now often been at the periphery of the discussion about violence against women at both the supranational and domestic levels, this article intends to explore the Council of Europe and European Union responses to this peculiar and yet neglected form of gender-based violence. The analysis will likewise cover the contribution of European Court of Human Rights case law in shedding light and providing some - although very preliminary - guidance. The article also features an intersectional approach, investigating whether and to what extent ob-gyn violence exposes minority women to greater risks, focusing on the case of forced sterilisation. Ultimately, the article aims to urge the reconsideration of the discourse around women’s rights, reproduction and violence through finally taking ob-gyn violence seriously.</p>
