Screening for Alcohol Use Disorder in Liver Transplant
摘要
This review aims to provide up-to-date recommendations on screening for alcohol use disorder through the pre- and post-liver transplant periods.
Recent FindingsAlcohol-associated liver disease (ALD) is the leading cause of liver transplantation worldwide. Screening for alcohol use disorder (AUD) in the liver transplant (LT) population remains a challenge due to significant stigma, lack of standardized practices, and lack of resources.
SummaryProper screening, diagnosis, and management for AUD are critical to improving liver transplantation outcomes. Effective screening for AUD involves the use of validated screening questionnaires and lab biomarkers. Predicting alcohol relapse after LT remains a challenge, with significant variability across studies. Additional research is needed in the LT population to determine the optimal method and frequency of screening.
