Linear Algebra Education: A Scoping Review
摘要
Linear algebra (LA) is a crucial topic in mathematics with numerous applications in various sciences and engineering fields. The aim of this scoping review was to examine 49 linear algebra education papers published in 2016- April 1, 2024, using Sierpinska’s model of theoretical and practical thinking. Using this model, we grouped the papers into one of the following four themes: (a) Practical understanding of theory, (b) Fostering theoretical thinking, (c) Ways to teach the art of mathematics, and (d) Re-aligning the Curriculum. Our analysis revealed a range of examples of practical and theoretical thinking in this scoping review from instructors’ perspectives and students’ work. Future studies will need to include in-depth studies of a broader range of LA concepts, especially topics in second courses.
