<p><i>Prunus africana</i> is a “flagship” medicinal plant species in Africa. However, its dynamics and sensitivity to climate change remain unclear. This study explores the perceived dynamics of <i>P. africana</i> in relation to climate change and indigenous adaptation strategies based on local knowledge of forest-dependent communities around Mount Cameroon. To achieve this objective, empirical data was collected in four villages by conducting group discussions, interviews, transect walks and observations. The study reveals that <i>P. africana</i> at lower forest altitudes is highly susceptible to weather anomalies and climate change, expressed by increases in pest and disease infections, decreasing area distribution, changes in growth and vitality and decelerated recovery after harvesting. Due to its importance for medicinal purposes, local farmers plant <i>P. africana</i> on farmlands, practice agroforestry and create nurseries. This study aims to provide insights for integrated conservation and development projects adapting to climate change, fostering medicinal plant conservation and sustainable livelihoods.</p>
