The Influence of MoS2 on Corrosion Behavior of B4C-Reinforced Aluminium Composite Coatings by Cold Spray
摘要
B4C/MoS2 dual-phase reinforced Al composite coatings exhibit both good wear resistance and low friction coefficient. However, the effect of MoS2 on the corrosion behaviors of Al/B4C composite coatings lacks study. In this work, Al/B4C/MoS2 composite coatings were fabricated on 6061-T6 aluminum alloy substrates by a low-temperature cold spray deposition process to avoid phase transformation. The effect of MoS2 on the coating microstructure and corrosion behavior was investigated. The microstructural analysis revealed the uniform dispersion of B4C particles in composite coatings, and MoS2 mainly existed at the interface of Al/B4C particles. The electrochemical test demonstrated that the Al/B4C/MoS2 coating showed superior corrosion resistance with a charge transfer resistance (Rct = 8.397 × 104 Ω cm2), approximately 10 times higher than the Al/B4C coating without MoS2, owing to the improved hydrophobicity on the coating surface with MoS2 addition. Meanwhile, immersion corrosion tests showed that the Al/B4C/MoS2 coating provided superior protection, attributed to the formation of nanoscale structures with interlocking short rods which effectively blocked the corrosive infiltration.
