<p>This study utilizes the predominant frequencies obtained from the H/V spectral ratio method based on high-density ambient noise observations to estimate the thickness of the Quaternary sedimentary cover in the Taiyuan Basin. Simultaneously, the spectral characteristics of the ambient noise in the study area were analyzed, yielding preliminary results for the sedimentary cover thickness and equivalent shear wave velocity in the Taiyuan fault-depression basin. The results indicate that the thickness of the Quaternary sedimentary cover within the study area gradually increases from north to south. Significant thickness variations occur in the Fenhe River valley and its banks due to fault influences, and the equivalent shear wave velocity shows a similar pattern of variation. The preliminary results for the sedimentary cover thickness distribution and equivalent shear wave velocity distribution, derived from the predominant period distribution of the ambient noise H/V spectral ratios in the Taiyuan Basin, largely reflect the shallow structural characteristics of the Quaternary coverage in this area. Except for a few measurement points strongly affected by external interference, the results from most points are consistent with borehole data and regional geological data. The obtained results can provide fundamental data for constructing a shallow three-dimensional structural model of the Taiyuan Basin.</p>
