Robust improved variance index CFAR algorithm for application in various complex environments

In the domain of radar signal processing, the Constant False Alarm Rate (CFAR) algorithm is indispensable for target detection. However, the implementation of such algorithms is significantly impeded by substantial computational requirements, rendering them challenging to deploy efficiently on hardware platforms. This paper presents a robust Improved Variability Index CFAR (R-IVI-CFAR) detector, which integrates the strengths of the Variability Index CFAR (VI-CFAR), Improved Censored Harmonic Averaging CFAR (I-CHA-CFAR), and Censored Mean Level Detector CFAR (CMLD-CFAR). Monte Carlo simulations conducted on the proposed detector indicate significant robustness in multi-target scenarios, alongside a high probability of detection within cluttered edge environments.
