Paths Forward for an Engaged Archaeology of Africa’s Deep Pasts
摘要
There have been calls for the expansion of community-engaged approaches within the archaeology of Pleistocene Africa. Such programs face challenges trying to connect deep histories with present communities that do not consider these pasts ancestral. This article reviews previously published community-engaged projects within the archaeology of Africa and brings to bear knowledge of such work in North America to help investigators understand how best to embed Stone Age research programs within the communities that host them. It specifically identifies realms of practice that have been shown to be successful with engagement over the long term.
