Die Wirkung von Behandlungsmaßnahmen auf das tatsächliche und das fachdienstlich eingeschätzte Rückfallrisiko sächsischer Jugendstrafgefangener
摘要
Saxony’s juvenile detention center employs various offender treatment programs to reduce individual criminogenic risk factors. Using the available data the impact of different interventions on (a) the actual likelihood of recidivism and (b) the likelihood of recidivism of juvenile offenders as assessed by social services staff was examined. By linking records from the Federal Central Criminal Register with data from the Regis-Breitingen juvenile detention center, a sample of 734 juvenile offenders was investigated. As analysis method for the observational data, propensity score matching was used. The impact of including treatment drop-outs in the experimental group is addressed by the two allocation procedures intention to treat and “treatment as received”. Of all the six treatment programs considered, only the social training program showed a reduction in actual recidivism. The estimated likelihood of recidivism was reduced by participation in antiviolence/antiaggression training as well as structured transition management. This overestimation of treatment effects and characteristics of juvenile offenders by the social services staff is significant in practice. The findings are put into the context of the current state of research and implications as well as limitations of the work are discussed.
