Synthesis of Ce-TiO2 nanoparticles using Jasminum fluminense leaf extract: their application to the degradation of textile dye and bacterial pathogens control

The eco-friendly approach of green synthesis of metal oxide nanoparticles presents a sustainable alternative to traditional chemical methods. This research explores the synthesis of anatase TiO2 nanoparticles and Ce-TiO2 nanoparticles using Jasminum fluminense leaf extract. Characterization, with X-ray Diffraction (XRD) confirms high crystalline nature and Energy Dispersive X-ray analysis (EDX) analysis confirms the purity of the synthesized nanoparticles. FESEM analysis reveals that Ce doping reduces agglomeration and results in uniform ion dispersion. The nanoparticles demonstrated over 90% efficiency in the photocatalytic degradation of Allizarin Red S and Diazin Green S. Moreover, Ce-TiO2 exhibited notable antibacterial activity against Enterococcus aerogenes, Acetobacter baumannii, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Klebsiella pneumoniae, Shigella dysenteriae, and Staphylococcus aureus, with the largest inhibition zone 34 mm against Staphylococcus aureus. These findings highlight Ce-TiO2 as a highly effective photocatalyst with a broad-spectrum of antibacterial capabilities.
