摘要

The present study reports the synthesis of ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles via the sol–gel method using tragacanth gum (TG) as a stabilizer. The investigation used XRD and FTIR analyses were performed to determine the structural characteristics. The FTIR analysis found the Zn–O and Mn–O vibration peaks which demonstrate the presence of ZnMn2O4. The band gap energy for the synthesized nanoparticles through the Tauc’s plot method is 1.45 eV. The XRD pattern confirmed the formation of ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles with a spinel tetragonal structure and an average crystallite size of 17.7 nm. The electron microscopic images showed that product consisted of irregularly shaped spherical particles. Sample analysis through EDX shows that material contains Zn, Mn alongside O in their composition. The antibacterial activity of ZnMn2O4 nanoparticles was tested for Gram-negative and -positive bacteria, namely, Escherichia coli, Bacillus subtilis and Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus. The results suggest that the tested compound has a high antibacterial potential against some bacteria, especially E. coli and Bacillus cereus, and could be considered as an alternative or complement to conventional antibiotics. We observed by photocatalysis that spinel ZnMn2O4 is effective for the degradation of RC.
