A sensitive colorimetric sensor based on Fe-Co PBA with oxidase-like properties for uric acid detection

In this work, a colorimetric sensor based on Fe-Co PBA nanozyme was prepared for efficient and sensitive detection of uric acid (UA). Herein, a simple, low-waste, and rapid process was used to prepare Fe-Co PBA. This material exhibited superior oxidase-like catalytic performance. Fe-Co PBA can efficiently catalyze the oxidation of TMB to produce blue oxidation products (oxTMB). When UA was added to the system, its antioxidant activity inhibited the reaction, and the concentration of UA showed a linear relationship within a specific range. Therefore, a colorimetric sensor based on the oxidase activity of Fe-Co PBA was developed to detect UA, demonstrating good performance with a detection range of 5-400 µM and a detection limit (LOD) of 2.8 µM. The developed colorimetric platform was evaluated for practical applicability using spiked serum samples. This PBA-based colorimetric detection method showed lower detection limit, fast reading, low cost, and simple manufacturing than other assays. This study highlights the development of a highly affine PBA nanozyme for antioxidant sensing.
