<p>The thrust bearing, as a critical and vulnerable component of the positive displacement motor (PDM), directly affects drilling efficiency and operational safety, and has an actual service life of only 200–300 h. At present, the service life of PDM thrust bearings is mainly evaluated from field operation records, while a rapid method for assessing their service-life trend under extreme working conditions remains unavailable. This study proposes a laboratory-based comparative evaluation method using pin-on-disk friction tests to assess the service-life trend of thrust bearing products made of 5Cr3MnSiMo1, G20CrNi2Mo, and G20Cr2Ni4 steels from three manufacturers. The load of the pin-on-disk friction test was determined through theoretical calculations. The results indicate that the wear resistance trend obtained from the laboratory pin-on-disk tests is consistent with the reported field service-life trend of the three bearing products. In comparison with induction-hardened bearings, carburized and quenched bearings exhibit better overall performance. The hardness of the carburized layer and its gradient distribution significantly affect wear resistance. Therefore, optimizing the process parameters for carburizing and quenching is essential for prolonging the service life of thrust bearings.</p>
