Influence of Al on CO2 Corrosion-Resisting Behavior of 3Cr Low-Alloy Steel

This study aims to investigate the influence of Al on the mechanical properties and corrosionbehavior of 3Cr steel and 3Cr2Al steel in CO2 environments and the mechanism behind the property change due to the addition of Al. New 3Cr2Al steel was designed and produced by adding Al to 3Cr steel. The influence of Al on the mechanical properties and corrosion-behavior of pipeline steel was studied through microstructure observation, mechanical test, electrochemical test and high-temperature-high-pressure corrosion simulation test, providing reference for the development of low-Cr steel. It is found in this study that compared with 3Cr steel, the elongation and impact toughness of 3Cr2Al steel were improved, but the hardness, tensile strength and yield strength were reduced, and the semi-passivation interval became larger. The Al-rich corrosion product film has a protective effect, thereby reducing the corrosion current density of the material. Al can assist Cr in improving the protective properties of corrosion product films, and 3Cr2Al steel possesses better corrosion resistance than 3Cr steel.
