摘要

The large-scale synthesis of tungsten oxide (WO3) nanostructures with high efficiency and benign processing is extremely desirable for practical applications. In this work, we propose a facile method to synthesize WO3 nanoparticles by liquid-assisted grinding method of commercial WO3 micron powder in a mixture of double-distilled water and isopropyl alcohol. The as-prepared WO3 was characterized by scanning electron microscope (SEM), transmission electron microscope (TEM), x-ray diffraction (XRD), UV–Visible (UV–Vis) spectroscopy, and Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) techniques. The obtained results revealed their significantly different morphology of WO3 micron powder into smaller WO3 nanoparticles with dimensions of 10–50 nm after milling for 96 h. Moreover, the photocatalytic activity of WO3 nanoparticles for photodegradation of methylene blue from aqueous solution was higher than that of pristine WO3. The results demonstrate a simple, environmentally friendly method for the mass production of WO3 nanoparticles for various applications.
