Influences of Mild Reoxidation After RH Vacuum Degassing on Inclusions in High-Carbon Chromium Bearing Steel

Influences of mild reoxidation after RH vacuum degassing on inclusions in high-carbon chromium bearing steel were investigated. The curves of population density function of inclusions indicated reoxidation occurred in the argon rinsing, which rightly caused dramatical formation of new spinel and solid calcium aluminates. These experimental results agreed well with thermodynamic calculations. Additionally, a formula was proposed to estimate the number of inclusions due to reoxidation on the basis of two-dimensional inspection and thermodynamic calculations.
