<p>Additive friction stir deposition (AFSD) is a novel solid-state metal additive manufacturing method, and this work demonstrates that AFSD of cast Al–Cu alloy A206 may be accomplished. Extensive cracks as long as 6&#xa0;mm were observed across the deposit after solution heat treatment; however, the addition of a stress relief anneal before solution treatment reduces the observed cracking. The importance of appropriate heat treatment procedures and residual stress effects in AFSD materials is discussed.</p>
