摘要

Austenitization of a Ni-containing medium carbon steel with ferrite–pearlite microstructure, during continuous heating (5 °C/s) is studied using dilatometry. A comprehensive methodology is proposed for accurate quantitative prediction of the phase fractions as a function of temperature from dilation data. The predictions were validated using interrupted quenching experiments and microstructural characterization. The dilatometry results suggest the presence of partition-less/massive transformation of pro-eutectoid ferrite to austenite in the steel studied which has been verified by microstructural characterization.
