摘要

In recent decades, there has been a significant increase in the prevalence of cancer in Germany, while mortality for many tumor entities has declined. This change is leading to a steadily growing number of patients who require long-term oncological follow-up care. The focus is increasingly shifting from ensuring survival to maintaining quality of life. While recommendations for primary therapies are mostly evidence-based, follow-up recommendations are usually based on expert consensus due to the lack of large randomized studies. Although local recurrences can mostly be treated curatively, distant metastases can usually only be treated palliatively, so structured and patient-centered follow-up care is essential. The goal is to enable early detection of recurrences or symptomatic metastases and minimize psychosocial stress, while ensuring long-term quality of life and promoting compliance regarding adjuvant therapy. This article provides an overview of the current recommendations for follow-up care for gynecological tumors—including breast cancer.
