Psychodrama am Lebensende – Ergebnisse einer qualitativen Pilotstudie in der Palliativversorgung
摘要
This article of the Zeitschrift für Psychodrama und Soziometrie presents a pilot study that investigates the use of psychodrama in palliative care. Psychodrama could be suitable for supporting people in their end-of-life-situation, processing internal matters, strengthening their self-efficacy and their awareness of personal resources.
Research questionHow do patients at the end of life utilise the offer of a psychodrama intervention?
MethodPatients on a palliative care ward were offered a psychodrama intervention with the opportunity to deal with a topic of their choice. The patients (N = 10) found their own topic and used wooden symbolic figures to set up their topic on a tray to develop it further. If possible, a debriefing with the patients took place over the next few days. The audio recordings of the interventions and the debriefings were transcribed word by word and analysed using reflexive thematic analysis and hermeneutic case analysis.
ResultsPatients use the intervention to bring strong ties to mind, to remember challenges they have overcome, to bring pleasant memories to life, to process stressful experiences, to become aware of their values and spirituality and to address death. It can be recognised throughout that the interventions help to deal with end-of-life challenges. Unresolved situations can be dealt with, options for action can be developed and strengthening resources are activated in the current and upcoming life and death situation.
ConclusionThe results show that psychodrama is used by palliative patients for developing and processing important tasks at the end of life. The themes found can be explained by various theoretical approaches, which also provide indications of the effect and significance of the interventions for the patients.
