摘要

Early childhood professionals are especially prone to emotional exhaustion — a core component of job burnout. Previous findings suggest that the social climate of the work environment is particularly relevant to prevent burnout. The present study empirically tests the relations between leadership, team climate and early childhood professionals’ emotional exhaustion based on data of 1394 German early childhood professionals and 204 center mangers. Results of cross-level mediation analyses showed that center managers’ leadership practices were positively related to perceived team climate, which in turn was negatively associated with professionals’ emotional exhaustion. There was no direct association between leadership and early childhood professionals’ emotional exhaustion. Implications of these findings are that initiatives to prevent emotional exhaustion among early childhood professionals should address the entire team, including the center managers.
