<p>The study provides a comprehensive overview of journalism education, communication and media studies programs in Hungary. It describes the difficulties faced by this field of education after the collapse of the communist regime and how university departments and programs in communication and media studies were established. It maps the communication and media studies programs currently available in Hungarian higher education. As part of this, it also describes the process that resulted in Hungarian universities, with few exceptions, coming under direct political control. It presents journalism training outside higher education, as well as internship programs offered by editorial offices.</p>
