摘要

Research results about the German language support classes, which were introduced in the schoolyear 2018/2019 in Austria, have only been available for five years. Existing research is based upon theories of inclusive education and language education, and can be described as critical of the system with a clearly empirical orientation. Analyses from the perspective of the sociology of education are currently missing in the field. Therefore, this current study offers a comprehensive summary of current research about the German language support classes in Austria and picks up on the disciplinary shortfall by discussing six distinct sociological perspectives for a theory-guided research perspective on German language support classes: (1) the sociology of organisations, (2) social inequalities, (3) intersectionality, (4) the sociology of norm and deviance, (5) the sociology of mobility, and (6) theory of educational choice and rational choice theory. The selected theoretical perspectives have the potential to complement empirically-oriented studies in this new field of research and to enlarge future studies with new perspectives.
